Prof. Silke Leopold

Silke Leopold, Full Professor and Department Chair at the Musikwissenschaftliches Seminar of Universität Heidelberg, has studied in Hamburg and Rome, where she also held a three-year post-doc position at the German Historical Institute. She taught at Technische Universität Berlin, at Harvard and at the University of Detmold/Paderborn.
Silke Leopold has been awarded the Dent Medal. She currently serves as Vice President of Universität Heidelberg, is a Member of the Akademie für Mozartforschung, Internationale Stiftung Mozarteum Salzburg, and Regular Member of the Heidelberger Akademie der Wissenschaften. Her research interests include history of opera, Italian music of the 16th—18th centuries, Monteverdi, Händel, Mozart, and historical performance practice. Some recent publications are Claudio Monteverdi und seine Zeit (21993), Die Oper im 17. Jahrhundert (2004) and the essay “Über die Inszenierung durch Musik. Einige grundsätzliche Überlegungen zur Interaktion von Verhaltensnormen und Personendarstellung in der Barockoper” (1999). She is the editor of Bärenreiter’s Mozart-Handbuch (2005).

Abstract

The subject of this panel is concerned with the relationship between Ritual and Spectacle in all aspects of culture and society. Individual Papers may address such issues as: The Staging of Rituals; Ritualistic Elements within Spectacle and Performance; The Ritual of Spectacle; Society and Event; Ritual, Aesthetics, and Reception; The Semiotics of Performance. The use of case-studies is encouraged, as are comparative studies especially from the fields of Music, Dance, Theatre, Literature, Cinema, and the Visual Arts.

Dieses Panel befasst sich mit dem Verhältnis zwischen Ritual und Spektakel in allen Aspekten von Kultur und Gesellschaft. Die einzelnen Vorträge können etwa Themen behandeln wie: Die Inszenierung von Ritualen; Rituelle Elemente in Spektakel und Aufführung; Das Ritual des Spektakels; Gesellschaft und Ereignis; Ritual, Ästhetik und Rezeption; Die Semiotik der Performanz. Dabei ist das Verwenden von Fallstudien ebenso erwünscht wie vergleichende Studien aus den Gebieten Musik, Tanz, Theater, Literatur, Film und den Darstellenden Künsten.
